Philadelphia has released the notification poster for employers to use to comply with the new paid sick leave ordinance, formally called “Promoting Healthy Families and Workplaces,” which became effective in May. This ruling requires certain employers located in the city to provide their employees with up to 40 hours of sick leave each year. Now that the poster has been issued, employers should ensure compliance with the notification and posting requirements of the law.
The poster can be downloaded here and must be displayed in a “conspicuous and accessible place in each establishment where [covered] employees are employed.” Employers should review and revise their employee handbooks, policies, and recordkeeping procedures to reflect their new obligations under the ordinance. The poster states that a new Philadelphia Sick Leave Agency will be created by September 2015 where employees can file complaints against employers.
